This week on Social Brand Chat presented by KXIC we discussed a question based on a new Facebook feature that we imagine many people will have: “What does the new Facebook newsfeed update mean for our brand?” Once again we’ve seen another change rolled out to Facebook that impacts your brand. And this time, it’s good news. Let’s chat about this.

Facebook’s notorious algorithm is always something that is top of mind for many marketers. Last fall, many were horrified to learn that the Edgerank algorithm — which frustrated brands by severely limiting page reach to around 16% — had been replaced by the new “newsfeed algorithm.” Early data showed that this pulled reach even further back to the single digits. Now Facebook has another update and it’s actually a positive for brands as they can now tag other pages in their updates. This interaction will then display on the newsfeed for those that like both brands, creating more cross-pollination and audience growth opportunities.

For this week’s social media news, we discussed Iowa Hawkeye Men’s Basketball Coach Fran McCaffery’s decision to ban Twitter use among team members. What do you think of this?

Speaking of the impact of content … you should attend one of our upcoming Content Marketing Boot Camps in Cedar Falls, Davenport, Ames, and Madison. This daylong intensive and interactive workshop will help you be a better blogger, video marketer, podcaster, and content creator. Listeners of the podcast get access to a special group rate of $125 when they use promo code KXIC to register for any of our Content Marketing Boot Camps.

Do you have a question about social media you’d like answered? Ask in the comments below, on our Facebook page, or on Twitter using #SocialBrandChat. Check out previous episodes of the Social Brand Chat podcast here.
